Orangutans are species of great apes, native to Indonesia and Malaysia. They are currently only found in the rainforests on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. The name orangutan, comes from the malay phrase orang hutan, or "man of the forest."

Orangutans are highly intelligent and are usually very passive animals.

The Orangutan is an endangered species, its status having been affected by deforestation, human activity and development.

Here you will find some of the best orangutan photos from the world. Some are from Orangutans in the wild jungle, while others are of Orangutans in capivity, from zoos or special Orangutan camps.

I personally love the photos of young and baby Orangutuns, but dont worry, you will also find pics of older, more mature Orangutans. Often they are the ones that are really playful and get up to a lot of mischief!
